The Confederation of African Football published, on Thursday, the first list of candidates for the CAF Awards 2022
which will be held on July 21, 2022, in Rabat, with a strong Moroccan presence.

Thus, the national team (men) is competing for the award for the best team for this year, along with Egypt, Tunisia, Senegal, Cameroon, Mali, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Equatorial Guinea, and Comoros, while 4 Moroccans are participating in the tournament. The list of 30 nominees for the Player of the Year award, including Ashraf Hakimi, Sofiane Boufal, Yahya Gibran, and Yassine Bounou.
In this category, the four Atlas Lions compete with other stars of African football, such as Senegalese Sadio Mane and Kalidou Koulibaly, Egyptians Mohamed Salah, Mohamed Elneny, and Mohamed Shennawy, as well as Algerian Riyad Mahrez.
Casablanca clubs Wydad and Raja, as well as Renaissance Sportive de Berkane (RSB), are vying for the Club of the Year award, alongside Orlando Pirates (South Africa), ES Setif (Algeria), Petro Atletico (Angola), TP Mazembe. (the Democratic Republic of the Congo), Al-Ahly (Egypt), Al-Ahly Tripoli (Libya), and Al-Ittihad (Libya).
The list of nominees for the Best Club Player award includes 20 nominees, including Wadi Ashraf Dhari, Yahya Jubran, Zuhair Al-Mataji, Rajawi Mohsen Metwally, the Berkani duo Youssef Al-Fahli and Youssouf Dayo.
National team coach Vahid Halilhodzic is on the list of 16 nominees for the Coach of the Year award, along with Wydad coach Walid Rekraki and Berkane coach Florent Ebeling.
The winners in each category will be determined by a panel of voters made up of the CAF Technical Committee, the media, coaches, and leaders of the member associations as well as the clubs participating in the group stage of the club competitions.
The CAF 2022 Awards will take place prior to the 'TotalEnergies Morocco 2022' Women's Africa Cup of Nations final scheduled from 2 to 23 July 2022.
