Moroccan private equity-backed 140 companies at the end of December 2021, according to the third edition of the “Report The Impact of Private Equity in Morocco – Exercise 2021,” presented by the Moroccan Association of Capital Investors (AMIC) and Frederick Grant Thornton.

Among the companies supported, 52% are small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and 48% are start-ups, AMIC identifies in a press release about this report that was produced under the leadership of the 'Statistics and Studies Committee' of the organization.

The data available to Moroccan companies investing since 2000, from which listed companies have been excluded, makes it possible to measure the impact of Moroccan private ownership on the evolution of its turnover, its workforce, and its social and environmental responsibility. The same source said their tax contributions.

Quoting the press release, AMIC President, Tariq Hadi, confirmed that in 2021, although the effects of Covid-19 are still very present on the entire economic fabric, companies invested by private equity have shown agility and resilience.

To add: “They have demonstrated an improvement in their financial structure, by strengthening shareholders’ equity and improving their long-term debt capacity, and thus their ability to invest.

In addition, they have improved their organizational, management and governance capabilities, enhanced their social and environmental responsibility as well as their ability to innovate and adapt their business model. ".

Hadi also noted that Moroccan venture capital has expanded into seed capital and venture capital phases thanks to the Innov Invest initiative, as 60% of companies invested in 2021 were through innovative capital.

Thus, Moroccan startups have been able to participate in economic growth and job creation across the country, he says.

AMIC brings together the majority of capital investment structures (Venture Capital, Development Capital, Transfer Capital/LBO, and Mass Capital) that are established in Morocco.

Professional contributors, and 28 active members of the association support and finance the growth of more than 240 Moroccan companies.

The association also has 23 affiliated members representing the professions that provide support and advice to investors and entrepreneurs in establishing and managing their partnerships.
