Dakhla hosts the 30th National Congress of the Moroccan Society of Neurosurgery |
since Tuesday in Dakhla, with the participation of around 180 medical specialists from the university, and public and private sectors both from Morocco and abroad.
This congress is organized in parallel with the 12th congress of the Moroccan Society of Spine and Spinal Cord Surgery (SMCRME) and the 13th edition of the WFNS international course of the Rabat reference center for young African neurosurgeons.
This scientific meeting brings together national and international experts to discuss several current topics and the experience of the various hospital-university structures in the management of neurosurgical pathology.
Organized under the theme "Neurosurgery: State of the art and future trends", this edition also aims to serve as a platform to promote the exchange of knowledge, information, experience, and expertise between specialists in the field, while allowing them to open up to the latest technological developments and current practices on an international scale, in terms of screening and treatment of neurological diseases.
Speaking on this occasion, the president of the SMNC, Professor Mohammed Benzagmout, underlined that this congress represents a real opportunity for the various Moroccan and African neurosurgeons to meet again, to discuss the various news and future trends of the specialty. and exchange their experience in the field.
Benzagmout, in this sense, underlined that this scientific event will make it possible to focus on the latest technological innovations, with the aim of improving the practice of neurosurgery in Morocco and Africa.
"We wanted to associate with this event all the national and international neurosurgeons from the different countries of Africa, Europe, Canada, and Latin America, with a view to achieving harmonization and providing more care of quality to our patients," he noted.
He also expressed the commitment of the SMNC to face new challenges and to fully play its role in medical training and in continuing education.
For her part, the elected president of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) for the period 2021-2023, Professor Najia El Abbadi, noted that this congress celebrated the 20th anniversary of the creation of the Reference Center in Rabat for the training of young African neurosurgeons.
Ms. El Abbadi, who is the first woman from Africa and the Arab world to become president of this international organization, explained that this center, which is part of HM King Mohammed VI's vision for South-South, has enabled the training of 80 African neurosurgeons since its creation, specifying that about twenty trainee neurosurgeons from sub-Saharan Africa are still being trained.
In this line, she stressed that Morocco continues to support the development of the specialty in Africa, in particular through initial training and continuing education, in accordance with technological developments and innovations in neurosurgery.
For his part, the president of the congress and head of the Neurosurgery Department at the Specialty Hospital of Rabat, Abdessamad El Ouahabi noted that this meeting is likely to consolidate Morocco's place as a leading country in Africa in the field. of neurosurgery.
El Ouahabi also said that Morocco is the first African country to have been accredited by the World Federation of Neurosurgery for the training of young African neurosurgeons in 2002.
The congress was preceded on June 28 and 29 by the 13th course of the Rabat Reference Center for the training of young African neurosurgeons approved by the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS).
This five-day scientific meeting (June 28 to July 2) aims to promote and strengthen exchanges between representatives of participating countries, strengthen South-South cooperation and support Morocco's influence as a pioneer in African neurosurgery.
On the menu of this conclave are several plenary sessions, oral communications, workshops, and e-Poster sessions dealing with many topics related to, among others, intracranial tumors, brain tumors, cerebrovascular pathology, pediatric neurosurgical pathology, tumor surgery, surgery of the spine, functional neurosurgery, central nervous system infections, and neuro-oncology.
