A huge fire continues to ravage dozens of hectares in the north of the country. 500 families living in areas close to the fires were evacuated by the authorities.
According to local authorities, other fires also affect localities in the provinces of Ouezzane and Tetouan. In total, these fires have already destroyed more than 1,000 ha of forest, according to an initial assessment.
In a statement to MAP, the head of the National Center for Forest Climate Risk Management, Fouad Assali, stressed that the intervention teams from the Waters and Forests,
Civil Protection, Royal Armed Forces, Royal Gendarmerie, and auxiliary forces, as well as the local authorities, continue their efforts to put an end to the 4 forest fires, which broke out in the provinces of Larache (2), Ouezzane and Tetouan, as well as another fire in Taza province level.
Hundreds of elements and a large number of machines and tankers were mobilized to control these fires, supported by four “Canadair” planes from the Royal Air Forces and four Turbo trush planes from the Royal Gendarmerie. High temperatures and strong winds, particularly in the provinces of Larache and Ouezzane, complicated the task of the intervention teams.
