Today, Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid urged "all countries in the region" to establish relations with the Jewish state, on the occasion of US President Joe Biden's visit next week to Israel, the Palestinian territories, and Saudi Arabia.

Israel calls for expanding the circle of normalization

Lapid said in a cabinet meeting today, "Israel extends its hand to all countries in the region and calls on them to build relations with us and change history for our children."

The prime minister considered it a "historic week" for the visit of Biden, whom he described as "one of Israel's closest friends in American politics."

The US President's visit lasts from Wednesday to Friday and includes meetings with the Israeli authorities in Jerusalem before traveling to the West Bank city of Bethlehem to meet Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

He will then leave for Saudi Arabia, where he will meet with a number of leaders of Arab countries.

“From Jerusalem, the president’s plane will fly to Saudi Arabia, and it will carry from us a message of peace and hope,” Lapid said about the trip of Biden, the first American president to make a trip between the Jewish state and Riyadh.

These statements come in an attempt by Israel to bring about a rapprochement with Saudi Arabia on the basis of the Abraham agreements signed in 2020, according to which it established diplomatic relations with the UAE, Bahrain, and then Morocco.

The Israeli prime minister stressed that regional "challenges" will be addressed during the visit, especially negotiations to restore the nuclear agreement with Iran.

He said: “It was revealed yesterday that Iran is enriching uranium with advanced centrifuges, in complete violation of the agreements it signed. The international response must be decisive: return to the UN Security Council and activate the sanctions mechanism in full force.”

In addition, he reiterated the Israeli warning that it "retains complete freedom of action, diplomatic and practical, in combating the Iranian nuclear program."

"Israel will not stand idly by while Iran tries to attack us," he added. Our security services know how to reach anyone, anywhere, and they will.”

Referring to Iran and attempts to establish a joint defense mechanism with Arab countries, Lapid expected talks with Biden to include "expanding security cooperation against all threats."
