Morocco's autonomy initiative to resolve the artificial conflict over the Sahara is the "most credible and reasonable" solution, according to former Spanish Defense Minister and former head of the security services Jose Bono.

Bono, who was invited to a program on the Spanish channel "La Sixta", said that "Morocco's proposal is the most credible and most logical, and this is what powers such as the United States, Germany, France and Spain have supported." He welcomed his country's support for Morocco's proposal on the Sahara issue.
He noted that "in all honesty, changing the (Spanish) position on the Sahara was a success for the government", because what the concerned population wanted was "live, not starve."
For the former speaker of the House of Representatives, the Moroccan autonomy initiative "is without a doubt in the interest of the people of the Sahara who need solutions, not decisions."
Mr. Bono also warned against "extremist theses that do not benefit anyone other than the Polisario that do not work democratically".
Returning to the relations between his country and Morocco, Bono stressed the importance of "coexisting with a good neighbor and a good friend like Morocco" for Spain.
