Morocco: poultry producers protest against the high cost of chicks

affecting the poultry sector, resulting from an agreement between speculators and certain sponsors.

This agreement resulted in an upward review of chick prices, due to rumors peddled about the scarcity of production before then broiler breeders were surprised by the profusion of production and that of poultry meats.

In a statement to Le Site info, Said Janah revealed that the poultry sector is heading for disaster, especially as far as breeders are concerned, due to the increase in costs due to successive increases in animal feed, in addition to operations of scams of which the poultry farmers are victims on the part of certain speculators of chicks, helped in this by certain sponsors. As a result, the unit price of chicks came to 6.80 DH, due to widespread misleading rumors and lies regarding the low production and supply of chicks.

In addition, added our interlocutor, with the increase in food prices, poultry costs are currently at 16 DH. “We were surprised by the good production of the chicks and by the profusion of poultry meat, and in a way that we did not expect. This means that the prices of poultry on the farms do not exceed 11.5 DH, which means a loss of 5 DH / kg, while it did not exceed 2 or 3 DH / kg only, "said Said Janah.

He also warned of the announced disaster in the poultry sector and its repercussions on the sector, knowing that poultry farmers have already suffered a lot during the covid-19 pandemic and the cessation of their activities and have had to resort to loans in order to be able to take them back. But today they are unpleasantly surprised to have been victims of speculators who exploited them, helped in this by certain sponsors, according to our interlocutor.
